In this issue: Need bullet trap dims Re: Machine rests Re: Machine rests Re: Machine rests Inexpensive shooting jackets Crosman 2000 Gran Prix Internet match ******************************************************************** Can you or anyone on this list supply me with the following, I am in need of diagrams & dimensions of individual bullet catchers, to be used in an indoor pistol range, unfortunately I cannot confirm what calibres will be used on the range yet. but will be used for C/F, sport and possibly practical. Regards, Bob Mallet. ramallet@super.net.uk [Editor - quite honestly, you just make them as big as you need (maybe 2 ft cube or so for pistol?). The only requirements are the angle of the plate should be at least 45 degrees and thick enough to take what you are going to shoot (3/8-1/2" for CF). An easier and cheaper solution is to make them out of rubber. See the Caswell International site for their GranTrap. We made a homemade version for our rifle range. It will require more maintenance though.] ******************************************************************** We have seen the "Russian" machine rest in Colorado Springs (Dan's). Ken Johnson (who also has one) said the Russian who made these is not making them for export. However, S+N UK has the license to make them. As the apparent sole distributor of S+N products in the United States we have contacted S&N and ordered some. The test cradle is priced at $325. The test cradle comes with a single recoil bar that fits into the accessory rail. There are some improvements over the original "Russian" design. The single recoil bar and "Teflon" bearing surfaces in place of the brass fittings. There are some thing to know about the system so you (and your readers) can make a decision on purchasing this rest. The test cradle alone works great with rifles screwed in the stock as long as the forend accessory rail and the barrel axis are parallel. For example a 1912 will work, but a 1907 will not. In the case of the 1907 or 2007, one can purchase a universal (both right and left handed) 1900 series chassis for $230 and/or a universal 2000 series chassis for $300. The chassis will drop into the cradle without problem. An extra recoil bar is $75 (used to save time if you are trying to test more than one rifle at a session). We should be receiving them within the month. Eley uses the S&N machine rests to test ammo and match their ammo to shooter's rifles. Troy Lawton (USAMU) has seen this fixture at Eley while selecting ammo, and was obviously impressed with it. He has told us that USAMU is extremely interested in purchasing the entire set. My name is Manuel Rodero, I am a very good friend of Troy Bassham and of his dad ofcourse. I go to Benning about 4 times a year to matches and train. This last time I was there I used the ammo testing devise with Ken and then with Troy and got to learn alot. I will probably be making some of these for sale, As we speak we are working on one which will be identical to the Russian if not better. There is a couple of things that I think could be better. I still dont know the price we will sell them at, but I would think about 300.00 dlls. This would be exactly like the one at Ft. Benning and the one Ken Johnson has, if not even better. Manuel Rodero II ******************************************************************** Michael, I have a set of plans for Hornady's rifle machine rest. The "brassworks" is in a zip file of about 130K and Hornady has given permission to copy it for personal use. They dropped it from the line many years ago. I am forwarding the E-mail of Bart, who has re-drawn the plans on a cad program. Bart has not answered my inquiry on if he will finish the set. It looks like enough information to build the machine rest but I have not yet tried to do so yet. Bob Fleming [Editor - this rest is much larger and more complex than the Russian rest. However, if someone would like me to post the basic drawing (no dims), I can put it up for a while. It's 350K.] ******************************************************************** [Editor - this comes from a startup college rifle team with very little resources.] We have a bunch of old junk for shooting coats that will have to do for a while. I would like to get some generic noncustom fit shooting coats that are useful. We don't have the resources at the moment to make a purchase, but I need to start working on getting some better ones now so when the time comes I have all the information I need. >>From what I see, I don't like the Champion's Choice Leather because the top button is so low in the front (low cut). I see some of my other choices being the Kurt Thune Single Canvas and the Gehman Canvas. The Kurt Thune Single Canvas is expensive for what it is and the Gehman colors leave much to be desired. What would you suggest? [Editor - I would concur with your assesment. However, you are not entering a fashion show. Neal Johnson's is selling a very similar coat to the Gehmann (colors and all), which I like better (I got one of each last year), for a bit less money ($149 vs 158). I have to buy a CC Cordura for one kid because he is too big for European sizing.] ******************************************************************** Readers of your Mailing List may be interested in the Crosman 2000 Airgun Grand Prix, so here are some information: Event: Crosman 2000 Airgun Grand Prix Date: Februrary 4, 5, 6, 2000 Venue: International Plaza Hotel, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Relays: Pistol, rifle, rapid fire pistol Classification: Men, women, junior, senior, wheelchair Organizer: Ontario Handgun Association Contact: Tel: 905-238-3090 Fax: 905-238-5269 E-mail: ohahq@netrover.com Please contact the OHA for full information regarding the competition and accomodation. We will follow the ISSF rules and use ISSF 10-metre target. Naturally you will need to follow the same standards. Since this is not a postal event you are not required to send in your targets, i.e., we work on the honor system. Basically you just : 1) Shoot your match as if it were a normal shoulder to shoulder event. 2) E-mail your score and SFC (Shooting Federation of Canada) classification. If you do not have an SFC classification we will classify you based on the score you submit and the SFC system. 3) Send your entry fees by regular mail to: MUN Shooting Club C/O School of Physical Education and Athletics Memorial University of Newfoundland St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, A1C 5S7 4) Fees are $7.00 Canadian or equivalent for the first event and $2.00 for additional events. We will shoot both air rifle and air pistol. Medals will be awarded in both events based on classification (60 shots), international junior (40 shots), lady (40 shots)and three person team (180 shots). Ladies and international juniors can shoot for classification and have their first 40 shots (of their 60) counted towards the lady and junior matches. A female junior may use the same 40 shot sting for both the junior and ladies event. 5) Winners will be notified by e-mail and we will mail out the medals after fees have been received. If you have any questions you can direct them to me. Further details are available on our web site. Follow the link to the MUN Shooting Series then "1999 Match Bulletin". If you do you will see a complete details regarding classification, fees rules and conditions. I will note two corrections if you visit the site before we get a chance to fix it. #1 The match for October 28 has been changed from an Indoor Free Rifle and Sporting Rifle event to an Air Rifle event. #2 The deadline for replies has been changed from October 28 to November 1st. http://www.cs.mun.ca/~mrt/index.html Cheers Dave Woolridge MUN Sea~Hawks Rifle Team ****************************************************************** End of UIT Mailing List #4 Michael Ray - Systems Engineer Rose-Hulman Inst. of Tech.
