In this issue: Re: UK UIT pistol WTB: Hammerli Peep Sights for a Blaser Rifl Need kneeling help / New Air Rifle WR question Re: Looking for used junior rifle jackets Re: SCATT site Re: Need new barrel for Match 54 Re: Need new barrel for Match 54 Need rifle suggestions Stuff for Sale list ******************************************************************** Thanks for printing my response on pistols. You are correct to say that those from Scotland, England and Wales must travel outside mainland UK to practice .22 pistol. This could be to Northern Ireland or the Channel Islands or Isle of Man or further abroad. Shirley ******************************************************************** Michael, This isn't a UIT question per se, but I'd be grateful if you can point me out to a retailer of Hammerli peep sights that is standard on the European version of Blaser rifles. Any help is appreciated. Regards, Satria ******************************************************************** Dear Michael, I would like to know if anyone can help me with my knelling position,as we do not dispose in Colombia of qualified smallbore rifle trainers. When assuming the knelling position, I cannot fix tightly the butt plate of the rifle (Anschutz 2013) against my right shoulder. So,as you imagine, whe I shoot I do not have a good support for the rifle and the shots are not well grouped. Can anyone of your list help me with this matter? Another thing, I have curiosity about the weapon and equipement used this january for breaking the air rifle world record (600/600). Do you know these facts? Thank you again, and go on with your excellent page. It has trully helped me a lot Guido Lastra Bogota, Colombia [Editor - 3 things I would look at. Are you shooting "out" of your position rather than across it (more like prone than standing)? Is the sling tight enough? If those 2 are OK, then either move the handstop forward in 0.5 cm increments, while being careful not to push the shoulder backwards, or move the buttplate backward in 0.5 cm increments. Which one you do depends upon your head position requirements. As for the equipment used to set the new air rifle WR, one of our list members coached that shooter a few years back so perhaps he will shed some light on that for us.] ******************************************************************** Re sources for Junior Jackets I have been holding off contacting the group for a while to see what was available around the place. There is a small business in the deep south of NZ who manufacture Canvas and Leather Jackets and Trousers mainly for NZ shooters. I have recently checked the latest offering and also to see if Darian wanted to advertise to the WIDE WORLD and this is what BLUE MOUNTAIN VIEW JACKETS have to offer. This has been popular for clubs and shooters in New Zealand. They do not have the sophistication built in like a Thune or Sauer but for the money you get good basic gear. Exchange rate at the moment is approx $US 1:00 = $NZ 2:00 ( Fluctuates a few cents either way depending how the US of A is feeling about Nuclear Free NZ ) Velly Cheep for Amelicans! NOTE: These prices are subject to periodic review. Could be up or down. Being a "Cottage Industry" it is subject to availablity and current price of canvas as large lots are not bought at a time. Prices do not include postage and insurance. Reliable delivery that includes insurance to USA appears to be about $NZ110 for one jacket. Delivery with no insurance costs about $NZ40. If a wardrobe was ordered then bulk shipment costs will of course apply. Three models of jackets are available: 1. Club Jackets, These are single layer canvas, made to be used by either LH or RH shooters, padded elbows, sling hooks and shoulder rubber on both sides. The interesting bit is the adjustable straps across the back. These take up the slack for the multitude of different shaped and sized shooters who come along with no gear. Highly illegal under ISSF rules but for introducing shooters into the sport and for growing Juniors a boon. Cost: $NZ 200 2. Canvas Made to Measure: Double layered canvas with choice of colours. Elbow pads, sling hook and buttons, 1 pocket. ( I am still using mine after 6 or 7 years. Won the Nationals with it just after it was new!. Yes - I do need a new one!!!!.) Cost: $NZ 325 3. Leather: Leather outer with Canvas lining. All the extras as mentioned in 2 above.Choice of colours. Cost: $NZ 555 Two Trousers are also available: 1. Canvas Trousers: 2 zips in legs with zip in top of thigh. Padded Knees and bum. Cost: $NZ 570 2. Leather Trousers: Same as canvas. Cost: $NZ 800 All jackets and trousers other than the Club are made to conform with current ISSF rules. They can all have extra gussets and bits and pieces added for a bit more cost for Positional shooting etc. Check cost of extras with Darian. I have arranged for Darian to send me a copy of the brochure and by the time this is out on the net I should have it as an attachment along with jpgs for anyone who wants one. email me rossmasn@actrix.gen.nz Darian will send a measurement form and brochure to anyone who contacts her directly by fax. She is not on the net. Darian Miller Postal Address: Blue Mountain View Jackets, School Road, Popotunoa, RD, Clinton, South Otago, New Zealand. Fax: Country code 64, area code 3, number 415 7268. Marco van Woudenberg ******************************************************************** >I am looking for input on the following issues: > > 4: what to set headspacing at, 42 thousanths or less is what I am >considering, maybe 41 My experience on this issue is in getting a Shilen stainless barrel fitted to an Anschutz 1813 action in an attempt to improve on my current Anschutz 1413 X-barrel. The headspace was tighter than my 1413, and while it accepted Eley ammunition snugly, Lapua ammunition was a tighter fit. As the barrel and action warmed up (ie at a competition on a sunny day, or when trying to batch-test Lapua or Eley ammunition) closing the bolt became more and more of a problem. Having to gently hit the bolt upwards with the palm of your hand in order to open it is .... unhelpful in competition :-( In summary, what seems an acceptable fit for dry firing and the first few shots may not be satisfactory. Martin Sinclair ******************************************************************** A thought for Mr. Shuman: Do not wait to re-barrel, do it right now. Why waste several hundred dollars of ammunition in a barrel that won't shoot? Take the 4-6 weeks off right now and get a new barrel in time for the summer. Smallbore season in PA doesn't begin until April, so you've got time. Borrow a gun for any matches you "must" shoot in the meantime. ******************************************************************** I have been out the small bore shooting game for about five years now, ever since my daughter stop shooting. I am getting the urge to get back into again. I have a Winchester 52E Free Rifle which I would like to use. Some my old buddies are telling me that I should donate it to old Rifles home. The rifle is basically still brand new. I never used it. The Rifle I used to use was a 1813. But I no longer own that rifle. What's your view on the subject. Ron [Editor - I see no reason not to make use of a good rifle. If it has a stock that fits you for the shooting you will do (prone only, 3p, 4p), then use it. It will save you lots of money.] ******************************************************************** [Editor - As always, I have just listed the rifles on the list.
