In this issue: Sling model differences Re: indoor training device Re: indoor training device Re: indoor training device Results wanted Need training plan Can you dry-fire Anschutz? Stuff for sale ******************************************************************** I have noticed that very few serious competitors use the pulley style sling (eg, Freeland's or Jensen made them in the US). Everyone I see is using the European style, which I'm not sure how to describe but anything from Thune or Sauer seem to be the most popular, but that may be because of namebrand only. Anyway, aside from possibly finer adjustments, is there some techincal advantage to using this style? Does it not move on the arm as much or does it distribute the force more evenly? I'm wondering if I should upgrade my team's slings to this style. We have some old Anschutz 7400 slings that are similar to the "new" style but the other half we have are Freeland's. ****************************************************************** Specifically to Curt Ingersoll on the issue of indoor training devices. I saw the RIKA device demonstrated in Barcelona and was most impressed. There were a few bugs to correct in that software version, but I very much liked what I saw. Simply the Rika can do the same type of shot analysis as the Scatt/Noptel devices in that it traces the path of the barrel and records lead-up and potential shot placement. The intepretation of information is also fairly similar. Where the Rika comes into its own is in the added features: firstly there is the small optional device that fits as a "sleeve" over the trigger and records the trigger pressure during the procedure. This sleeve is barely noticable and can well detect and show graphically, the difference between playing around with the trigger and smoothly completing the shot.....and all stages in between. The second feature is the ability to record the heart rate of the shooter via a Polar chest monitor. The pickup for this is internally located in the Rika box - again the one piece of information (ie what the shooter is doing) is converted to many different areas. The Polar chest strap/monitor is not supplied with the Rika, but is activated to accept and record from it. The Rika assists the shooter and the coach with information about: What the shooter perceives and quality of the technique - Seeing (via the barrel movement/placement) How the shooter reacts - Trigger control and activation How the shooter's body reacts - heart rate during shooting Putting together these aspects, and in consideration of the costs, it is a machine that should be well considered. I had the opportunity to personally test the machine during the World Champs and felt sufficiently impressed to recommend the purchase to my Association. TRA will be purchasing one very soon, and I would gladly respond to any queries once it is up and running. By my knowledge, the Curt System is still available. As a remember the cost of this system was much less than $1700 I know both the Scatt and Noptel sytems (as we use them in Belgium), and my first impression of the Curt system is, easy to use in all circumstances (e.g. calibration, use at reduced distances, and kiss software). You can find Curt on the net : http://www.sfab.fsrskytte.se/curt/ regards, Tom De Ruyck, ISCD Shooting referee ****************************************************************** Hey Mike, Here is a good training device for a young shooter... And, for less than $100.00 cost. A lazer pen of the type for pointing at breifings or instruction and tape it to the barrel of the rifle or pistol and point it at a sheet of frosted glass. Place a TV camcorder behind the glass so to record the movements and record it into a Vidio tape recorder. That way you can review the progress of a shooter togeather. Of course you will not have the whistles or bells of a SCATT, but it will provide. and for less than $100.00. Of course the target can be copied onto a clear piece of plastic so the lazer can go through to the other side and shine on the surface of the frosted glass. Shooting is 98% mental and 2% physical.... Thank You, Leopoldo Fossati ****************************************************************** Dear Sir: I am a spanish shooter, located at south east part of Spain. Shooting is not a very popular sport in my country,by history references I think...(war,Franco,...)people refuse those "crazy man in arms". Then is difficult to find a trainer or marksman shooter with experience for learning. At the moment I am training and shooting in several disciplines : Air 10m score-----570-----Walther LG90 300m 3X20 Standard--------550 Tanner .308 win 50 m Prone-----------580------Anschütz 1913 I use to study some about "mental trainig" all in English because there are not anything in Spanish about shooting. I need a good trainig plan . At moment I am preparing next National Championship in air 10m. ****************************************************************** I realize it's time I do some practising at home and would like to ask the group's advise on how to properly deal with dry firing this Anschutz. Is a fired case in the chamber sufficient to protect the firing pin and chamber edge or do I really need to go with a second bolt assembly with a dry fire pin in it?
