For sale: Aluminum stocks for 2013 Any experience with Swartklip ammo? Anschutz Acheiver vs. Marlin 2000 ******************************************************************** Scott Pilkington is taking over the sponsorship of the Air Pistol Home Page. Patrick Rowling sent Scott everything but the archive. When Scott gets that the page will be up and running again. Currently you can get to the Air Pistol Page from Scott's site but it will not accept posts yet. Lanning R. Hochhauser lanningh@datair.com http://www.datair.com [Editor - I got several responses to the status of the air pistol home page. This one pretty much sums it up, however, it appears the old message board is still active at http://www.midcoast.com/~pilkguns/bbs/ but the link on Scott's page (http://www.pilkguns.com/) isn't valid. Scott's link to the air rifle and smallbore message board leads you to the air pistol one though.] ******************************************************************** As I have been telling folks recently, I am a recovering pistol shooter who is starting to get into rifle. Currently I am using an old Marine Corps Win Model 75 to learn to shoot prone while I search for a competitive target rifle. My question is specifically regarding aperture sizes, front and rear. What sizes are good ones to start from? My rear sight has a 1mm opening. (I am probably going to get the Neal Johnson variable rear aperture, so that somewhat solves that issue.) I am more concerned with the front. For 50m, what is a good size to start with? BTW, do you know anyone selling leftie rifles? I am looking for both air and smallbore, and any help would be appreciated. TIA Alan Stewart natty@mindspring.com [Editor - Depending upon light conditions, I would use a 3.6 or 3.4 front and 0.8-1.4 rear. As for rifles, check with Neal for used southpaws, and I note that there was an 1813 for 2200 and a Steyr LG-10P for 1300 in the stuff for sale list from issue #29. I also still have those old Anschutz SM54 which I can provide with a left hand stock for 700. I know Al Harry was trying to sell his 602 as well.] ******************************************************************** Sierra has the optimum twist rate Vs bullet / velocity available for their products. So if anyone is contemplating a new barrel, I would suggest calling Sierra to find out what they recommend for the intended load. > other dependents are > bullet weight, caliber/lenght ratio (this is releated to bullet weight), > length of bullet contact in barrell. the best twist from below is 1:12 this is probably for a 85-90 grain bullet at 800 fps. Compare this to the best twist of 1:12 for a 52 g 223 rem at 3300 - 3400 fps. Both optimum twist rates of 1:12. ****************************************************************** I have two (2) Keppeler aluminum free rifle/sport rifle stocks for the Anschuetz 2013 for sale. These are new, unused and come with hook, fully adjustable cheek mechanism and foreend balance weight. The rail is the standard Anschuetz rail and accepts all German accessories. This is the stock used by Sonja Pfelschifter on her 2013 in recent World Cup competition. Price: $895 each plus postage and insurance. This price is less than that of the new aluminum Anschuetz stock. "Terry L. Friesz" [Editor - please e-mail Terry directly if interested.] ****************************************************************** Hi folks. I just tested some Swartklip sub sonic and match trainer ammunition at the range today and found that it shoots very well in my pistol. I especially like the mild recoil of the sub sonic round, it seems a promising round to use in the Standard Pistol match. If it had not rained I would have fired a group over a chronograph to check the velocity, extreme spread and standard deviation. I would like to know if any list members have used or are using this ammunition also if any one is using SK ammunition. E. e.maher@uq.net.au ****************************************************************** For several years I have wanted to purchase a beginning target rifle for my daughter. A few weeks back I had the opportunity to compare an Anschutz Acheiver and a Marlin 2000L at a gun store. I frankly was surprised at the fit and finish on the Acheiver. After all I have heard about Anschutz rifles, I would have expected better. The Marlin, on the other hand, was well made, functioned smoothly and handled well. Unfortunately I did not have the chance to shoot either. Has anyone had any experience with either? Would this make a good rifle for a beginner shooter to use? Thanks Bill Turini [Editor - I have heard the Marlin is decent. It is used a lot for summer biathlon too from what I've read. I would also be surprised the Anschutz didn't live up to expectations. I have never seen an Anschutz that wasn't nice. Perhaps they cleaned up a used gun that had been abused?] ****************************************************************** End of UIT Mailing List #33 Michael Ray - Systems Engineer Rose-Hulman Inst. of Tech.
