I own 2 FWB65's (a very early one--#23059 and a more recent one-#122720) In testing for accuracy with a machine rest I discovered that only the heavy weight pellet worked best in the older model and the light weight pellets worked best in the newer one. Our Canadian shooter should obtain both pellets styles (heavy and light) and get them in the four different sizes available. This should be done with both RWS and H&N. Yes this is a lot of testing. But when you find the perfect pellet for that particular airgun--all ten pellets in a string virtually through the same hole time after time--write down the lot and try to order a case. A friend of mine who represented New Zealand in the Commonwealth Games back in 1986 or so, took his Mod 2 gas gun to FWB and they put it through a similar testing and he left with an enormous supply to last him years. Only a machine rest will do and Gehmans has one but I don't know how much it costs. Be very scientific about this testing. Your test results must be repeatable or you are only kidding your self. --Russ Saunders (Presidio Gun Club San Francisco) [Editor - Neal Johnson's does pellet testing of the various sizes if you don't want to buy/make a rest or samples of each of the pellets yourself.. For rifle he only does the heavy weight though he may do both if you request. I would drop him an e-mail at mailto:neal@nealjguns.com and see what you could work out. Cost is $25 US.] ****************************************************************** Hello again, sorry for the delay in getting back to you on the contact point for Mouche. Properly fitting shooting trousers are essential for positional shooting once you have established basic positions. The support which they provide cannot be underestimated. I noted the comments on having to be able to put the trousers on over training shoes while zipped up and that this makes the trousers loose fitting in the leg. It is not the legs which provide the most support. It is the back and hips which are the important parts as this is where the support is most important. In any event if you select your trainers carefully you can have the legs fairly close fitting all the way down. I know of someone who keeps a pair of trainers specifically for this purpose because he has very long feet. I have competed at a number of World Cups and also at World and European Championships and I can't say I have ever been asked to put my trousers on over a pair of trainers. In the standing position, if the trousers come too high up the back they will restrict the flexibility in the backbend which is ultimately the locking point of the position. The limit on waistband height does not render the trousers ineffective, in fact if they came too high up they could also restrict breathing. Judicious use of a belt will also provide additional support in the back area. In kneeling the trousers also help to prevent the position wallowing around. The zips do not have to be undone completely except perhaps in the right leg (for right handed shooter). I have my left leg zip done up apart from a small gap behind the knee for comfort. Some makes of trousers have zips with three pull tabs so that they can be opened at either end or have a gap in the middle. Also the waistband does not have to be completely undone in the kneeling position. I know of one successful Olympic shooter who always kept the trousers done up all the way in the kneeling position. As to the construction, I would say that double canvas would be preferred although single canvas properly fitting trousers would be better than say jeans. If you look on any international range you will find a significant proportion of prone shooters also shooting in shooting trousers and I have found that it does give a certain stability to the position. There is also the question that if a jacket is measured to fit wearing shooting trousers and you don't wear the trousers, does the jacket then not fit so well. The counter to that is that many people shoot prone with the jacket undone altogether, saying that if it fits properly across the shoulders then the rest doesn't matter for prone. That debate could go on for a long time! I also note the query on wrist bands. I have seen them used over here in the UK (or in my case the frozen norths of Scotland) to help keep the hands warm and aid circulation. Some Jurymen would say that as long as it is not providing artificial support it would be okay. However, the easiest solution to the problem would be to sew the wristband to the shooting jumper so that it becomes part of the underclothing. Provided that it does not exceed the thickness requirements it should be okay. I agree that a better solution would be to use the longest glove available within the rules. Looking forward to the next issue. Shirley McIntosh ****************************************************************** [Editor - this is the top portion of the for sale list put out by John Crossman.
