In this issue: Re: Barrel tuners Pellet weight Need Mouche contact info Advantages of pants Air rifle match (Chicagoland) Thune pants for sale Wrist band legal in prone? ******************************************************************** Time Precision can be found at http://benchrest.com/timeprecision/ I own two of their supertunes and they work very well on rimfire benchrest rifles. Rich Lakey ******************************************************************** I am a pistol shooter in Mount Pearl, NF. I recently competed in the 1999 Canada Winter Games. I was wondering what the benifits/disadvantages were of shooting pistol weight pellets as opposed to rifle weight pellets. Or is their no real difference? [Editor - Accuracy-wise mechanically there probably isn't a difference. You should shoot whatever produces the best groups in your gun. I would guess the lighter pellets would probably work better since they will move faster and leave the barrel sooner.] ****************************************************************** Can somebody tell me an address and point of contact for Mouche? Concerning: "Personally I would recommend Mouche. :Price wise, it is considerably cheaper than Thune and Anschutz and just as good quality, probably better than Anschutz." I have found Mouche to be just about the same price as Thune. Do you know a supplier which is "considerably cheaper" as claimed above? [Editor - the author of that comment is from the UK where apparently it is cheaper than here in the US. I am awaiting the contact info from her and will pass it along.] ****************************************************************** How much advantage do shooting pants really offer, beyond providing a non-slip surface at the knee? In the kneeling position the legs are folded beneath the shooter and should not require any support at all (it would seem!) The zippers on the back of the leg would almost suggest that the pants cause problems rather than eliminate them. Likewise in standing, the shooter must be able to put the pants on over normal athletic shoes with the zippers closed. The pants are, therefore, loose fitting around the legs. The pants cannot extend too high above the normal waist (to support the lower back) without falling afoul of the rules in this area, either. So the question is, are full-blown UIT pants (double canvas, multiple zippers, etc.) worth the expense and bother? I would like to hear from both shooters and coaches. Thanks for the info! Tom Neuser noisey@slh.wisc.edu [Editor - I would agree they are of little value in kneeling except for the rubber pads. In standing, I notice a difference because I do get more support in the lower back. My hold is definitely better using pants. Now whether they support as much as a single canvas pant (junior models), I don't know. Some of those junior pants have double canvas on the top portion and waist so perhaps they do. Some pants are made solely for the standing position, too.] ****************************************************************** WHEATON RIFLE CLUB presents ... an "Open" A I R R I F L E M A T C H on Friday April 16, Saturday April 17, (& Sunday April 18, 1999) Entry: Advance mail or phone entries are appreciated! They are the older style with pockets, but are in good shape. They are 34 waist 34 inseam. I'd like $100 for them, including suspenders. I'll pay the shipping. Anyone interested can email me. Thanks Jim GQMGT@aol.com ****************************************************************** Hi Michael, I am on your mailing list and look forward to it each week. I find it a great place to get ideas from but as yet have not been in a position to contribute to it. Shooting in Pakistan is very low key with fewer coaches and matches so most of it is self taught or from information and books from various sources. So keep it up and good luck! I have a question: Under UIT rules for a small bore 60 shots prone event can one wear a wrist band on the sling arm/wrist. I am a right handed shooter hence the sling is on the left arm. My jacket is slightly small at the sleeves and during the shoot my left sleeve slips further back. The sling starts to bite in around the wrist area and within a very short period becomes very painful. If a wrist band is permissible then this could be a solution to my problem. For my reference & inf. what clause of the rules allows/disallows the wearing of this wrist band? Please advise. Thanks & Regards Usman Sadiq [Editor - I see nothing regarding wrist bands in the rules. They don't permit items the provide more stability, but that is not the case here. What I would do is get a different glove that extends the maximum 5cm past the wrist knuckle. I am surprised that your current glove doesn't cover your wrist enough to prevent the sling from biting into you. Has anyone else heard a ruling on wrist bands?] ****************************************************************** End of UIT Mailing List #23 Michael Ray - Systems Engineer Rose-Hulman Inst. of Tech.
