In this issue: Club jacket/pants recommendations UIT Rules / ammo Re: The mental art of sighting Unusual equipment questions Unfortunate incident at RMSC ******************************************************************** Your humble editor here... Have a woman on my team I need a jacket/pants for because she just doesn't fit well into our generic Hawkeye jackets and Gehmann pants. I'm looking for a cost-effective solution to this problem. Thus, it's obvious I need mostly canvas, but it must be double thickness (eg, not a "junior" model) at least for the jacket and have suede on the left front. While I haven't measured her yet, it may be possible that a "standard" women's size may fit her. Thune is too expensive even if I go with "junior" pants. Also looking at Anschutz "Variant" and "Special Color", Sauer Atlanta Canvas Economy, and Custom Leather Wear's Super Canvas. Any others I should consider? Which of these provides the best fit for women? Do single layer pants still provide good support in standing (since the waist is often double layer)? She'll use them for 2 years. Then they won't be used again until I get another woman that's well-curved near the same size. Thus, it's not in the team's best interest to spend a fortune on these items. ******************************************************************** Hi Michael 1. Where can I get a copy of UIT rules. My daughter is just getting started. 2. Do you have an address for Accuracy International so that I could get a catalog for ammo? Robb@lasertronics.com [Editor - the rules aren't on the web yet that I'm aware of. It appears the ISSF will be putting them up there but their rules page has not changed for some time now. As for Accuracy Int'l - PO Box 2019, Bozeman, MT 59715 406-587-7922. It appears he allows lot testing on R-50 or Federal Ultra Match only.] ****************************************************************** I have a question for coach Chet Skinner who wrote of the mental art of sighting. He claims that rear iris' and shooting glasses only offer the illusion of a better sight picture but I don't know any top shooters that don't use an iris and/or shooting glasses. I would like to know what sights and/or glasses his shooters use and how well they shoot. I myself don't use an iris but wear contact lenses when shooting. My scores are pretty good too. ****************************************************************** I got a question on two pieces of equipment. Perhaps someone can shed some light on to them. THe first is a Winzler Electronic trigger. The one in question is for an Anschutz and uses 15 volt battery. The item is from about 10 years ago and were said to be quite popular at the time. The second is an Austrian (I believe) manufactured bullpup stock for an Anschutz rifle. I saw this one in a German shooting book, (its softcover and has one of the French female shooters on the cover. Should be out in English some time soon). THe action port is around the area of the cheekpiece. THe whole item is manufactires out of aluminum and is used with an Anschutz 54 action. If someone has any info or experience they could share with me on the above two items it would be greatly aprriciated. Thanks and have fuN! Maxim posidon@ix.netcom.com ****************************************************************** I have been a “forwarded observer” of your newsletter for sometime. I appreciate your time and effort in putting it together. I have a disappointing item to relate to your readers, many of whom might be college coaches or other program leaders. During the recent (Feb 99) Rocky Mountain Rifle Championships in Colorado Springs, 3 junior shooters were caught stealing items from a local gun shop. They apparently bragged about their actions to some other shooters. One of the other shooters, rumored to be a National Team member, turned the thieves in to a USA Shooting official. USAS officials found stolen items in the accused shooter’s bags. The shooters originally lied and denied taking anything, but apparently admitted to stealing after the items were found in their possession. These shooters had also bragged to other kids in the match that they had been stealing at various competitions over the past year. I don’t know if you can print this or not in your newsletter in it’s entirety. The names and facts can be confirmed by USAS. These kids are college age and have been approached by various shooting schools already. “Recruiters beware!” [Editor - for liability sake I won't print their names. However, anyone can call USA Shooting for more info. This indeed is an unfortunate incident, but it seems there are always some bad apples. This must have happened on the second weekend since I was there on the first one.] ****************************************************************** End of UIT Mailing List #21 Michael Ray - Systems Engineer Rose-Hulman Inst. of Tech.
