In this issue: Internet matches - Correction Hammerli SP20 vs 208? 600 in air rifle / rapid fire changes The mental art of sighting ******************************************************************** Editor - I was provided an incorrect URL. I checked this one: http://www.cs.mun.ca/~mrt/ See the MUN Shooting Series link. ****************************************************************** Looking for a word of advice in reference to the new hammerli sp20, I will like the opinion of some one who try it, and how is it compare to the 208s.I already own the 208s but the new sp20 look very appealing to me ****************************************************************** Dear friends 1. I would like to announce that Jozef Gonci (the best shooter 1998) created at the Slovak Open 1999 the new Slovak records in the event Air rifle - 600 points and 703,1 points with finale. Those records are higher than current world records. 2. I did hear about on-coming change in rapid fire pistol rules. Those changes are concerning the ammunition and targets. (instead of .22 short will be used .22 LR and current target with 5 circles will be replaced with target with 10 circles. Does somebody know about those on-coming changes? 3. I would like to announce that Slovak shooting federation will organise international competition in rapid fire pistol. This competition will hold in east Slovakia, in the town Spisska Nova Ves, from July 2nd till July 5th, 1999. More info you can see later at http://members.tripod.com/kazisvet/gpsp99.html or get on e-mail gp99@pobox.sk With best regards Peter Mlynarcik mlynarcik@pobox.sk ****************************************************************** THE MENTAL ART OF SIGHTING: In review of the past UIT list items on eye or sighting technique, I note that each contributor validates the eye's poor abilities or sighting technique. Many shooting athletes have written about physical problems with the eye's collective inability to correctly focus upon the target. Add to this the age generating additional eye problems and we see one of the biggest match problems to the competitive shooting athlete. The eyes generate major errors in sighting during the sighting process of competitive shooting. Never the less we continue to rely upon a the physical eye to accomplish the sighting process. If any one item is more troublesome to the competitor it is the eye. We have heard from many experts from around the world who have validated in effect that if they could they would throw the eye's out and try something else. But alas this is impossible. There is another way of sighting during competition and still use the less than perfect eye for the sighting process. The process is in stopping the eye during precision sight viewing. The eye cannot view anything with precision. The eye views any object in a pictorial representation of the total view and not just one small item viewed. The non-dominant mental entity breaks the pictorial representation into small segments for analysis and precision adjustment determination as required. Upon completion of the analysis phase the non-dominant entity gives instructions to the neuromuscular system for muscular adjustments necessary for the accomplishment of the perfect bull's-eye. With this you will note that it is not the physical eye but the non-dominant mental entity and the neuromuscular systems that initiate and complete the sighting process to the perfect bull'-eye. The competitive athlete can now understand that the eye views a full view of an object and cannot dissect it into small precision views of any object. All physically viewed pictorial representations are broken into smaller views or precision views within the non-dominant mental entity and then used for the issuance of instructions to the neuromuscular system for the achievement of the sighting goal. So we have a little method of the sighting procedure. The shooting athlete can now understand that the non-dominant mental entity is the key functional element in the sighting process. The physical eye views the black bull down range and the non-dominant views the pictorial representation the eyes views. The non-dominant reduces the black blob in the pictorial representation and finds the exact center of the black blob of the bull. We take it one step further by mentally reducing the center of the black bull's-eye x3. All of this is accomplished within the mental entity. And not the eye's. The mental entity develops the perfect bull's-eye by locating the precise center of mass and not the out side circumference of the black blob. The only bit of information the circumference provides is the size of mass and gives the non-dominant mental entity a general size of the object for center of mass determination. The circumference can be egg shaped and still the non-dominant can determine the center of mass for sighting procedures. Think about it...You will realize the metal sights, the eye sighting procedures and the eyeglasses or iris rear sights is not really worth the money shooting athletes often spend in the illusion that they some how benefit the sighting and shooting process. Think about it and the shooting athlete will change the sighting concept and start shooting the perfect bull's-eye on each shot. Every shooting device and eye glasses cannot accomplish the precision sighting that can be accomplished with the non-dominant mental entity and the neuromuscular system.
