In this issue: Re: Future of Olympic smallbore competition Target changers Want NDT and junior records info Pistol equipment for sale ******************************************************************** Regarding shooting sports at the Olympics: While I agree that shooting sports in general are not well-received in many parts of the world, it is important that we recognize their popularity in certain other- particularly Europe. I worked on the production staff at the shooting venue at the Atlanta Games. It was our experience that many spectators came to our venue disappointed that they could "only get tickets to shooting" and then found out what an exciting, wholesome experience our sport actually was. In addition, Juan Antonio Sammaranch, head of the International Olympic Committee, attended his first shooting event, Women's Air Rifle, so as to present the first medals awarded at the Olympic Games. He was so impressed with the activities that he returned to view a shotgun event later in the week. I have no doubt that many of us in the shooting sports in the US, Australia, UK, etc., are having a difficult time sharing the idea that shooting belongs in the Olympics. But remember, while we in the US were being blacked out from TV coverage by NBC, millions of Europeans were staying up late at night to catch the shooting events live on TV feeds to their countries. Good shooting to all/ and hopes that those who have Olympic dreams will continue to see them realized. Bill Kelley Frederick, MD ****************************************************************** The Maidstone Club, Upper Hutt New Zealand, now has available single shot Target Changers in Kit Form. Produced from .75mm galvanised steel, punched out with a NC Turret punch, powered by 12v Windscreen Wiper motors (2nd hand) and supplied with 50m of 2 core cable (single user) or 3 core cable (double user). They use Fan Fold Targets placed in the top tray and drive them through to fold them in the bottom. Easily handled by one person. No shot protection because Smallbore Shooters shoot straight! Anyway parts easily changed and they are guaranteed to fit! We got in and designed them specifically for NZ National Championships held in February this year and they were an unqualified success. Through rain, wind and shine. An excellent week had by the 100 shooters. Maidstone are offering them at a rate that should enable any Club to get single target shooting up and running. Cost in $NZ395 per changer + freight. Contact Ross Mason for info. rossmasn@actrix.gen.nz. This may sound like an ad. It sort of is. But I have just read (finally) the letters on the Sydney Ranges and they talk of not having single shot changers. Maybe they might like to try us out. This is more of a Club project rather than out and out commercialism. Ross Mason ****************************************************************** Hi, I made the National Development Team out at the JORC. Can someone tell me what exactly this gives me (outside the cool windbreaker)? Also I was talking to one of the people out there and he says that the prone junior world record is would come out to something to a 593/594 per person (which I think is a 3-man team). Can someone confirm this? Thanks and have fuN! [Editor - they didn't tell you anything?! Should give you some ammo and travel costs maybe but I'd talk to the national coach. Junior prone world record is 600 for individual set in 91 and 1777 for 3 man team set in 90 and 93.] ****************************************************************** I have the following items that I would like to sell: Pardini Free Pistol Accessary weights Test targets "Customized" grip $475 (I would prefer to sell this localy) Morini grip for a Walther GSP Right hand Like new (tried it and could get used to it) $75 (new in Champion Choice = $148 + S&H) Factory grip for a Walther GSP Right hand Like new $40 (new in Champion Choice = $110 + S&H) 5-shot dry-fire trigger for a Walther OSP Like new $175 (new in Champion Choice = $230 + S&H) Wanted: Walther 2-stage trigger unit, will trade I am in Southern NH.
