I forgot to mention last time that I have redone all my Olympic pictures, more than doubling the number of them and improving the quality. I hope to attend part of the Atlanta World Cup in May to get more pictures. In this issue: Anschutz sight clicks Sydney ranges Postal matches Psychology site ******************************************************************** Does anyone know the change in inches/mm with each click of the Anschutz rear sight at 100 yards? -- steve podleski Everett, WA [Editor - I have seen in a couple places that the old sights have about 2 clicks per ring and the new ones are about 5 clicks per ring. YMMV.] ****************************************************************** Mike: I know people have been wondering about the ranges for Sydney in 2000 for the Games. I just got a letter today, dated Jan. 5th, from the Competition Mgr-Shooting in response to my letter of Dec. 23rd about the previous concerns with ranges, etc. Here's what he had to say: "The SOCOG, have at all times been supportive of shooting as part of the Olympic Progam. With 17 medal events, shooting is the 5th largest medal event in the Games program behind Swimming-44, Athletics-40, Cycling & Gymnastics-18. The Olympic shooting events will be conducted at Sydney International Shooting Centre, a new and permanent $M18.5 complex will serve shooting well into the next century. SISC will have a 60 position 10m range, four groups of 10 targets on the 25m range, 50 firing positions on the 50m range and three combined trap & skeet shotgun ranges. The range is scheduled for completion by early to mid 1999 which is one year ahead of the Olympic program. I appreciate your concerns which do not reflect the true standing of the matter, and ask that you relate this to whoever provided you with what is misleading information." I guess that answers that pretty well. Later, Don Williams, Oregon. ****************************************************************** Hello Everyone! I think I should explain a small detail before you are confused by the match bulletin that follows. I have moved on from the Memorial University Shooting Club and have taken a coaching role in a new High School Air Gun Club, the Mount Pearl Senior High Huskies Shooting Club. We started the club in late 1997 and my colleague Jim Boone and his wife Carol have taken the lead role in coaching and organizing the club. So far we have approximately 15 junior athletes who are progressing rapidly. MUN has someone who will be taking over their matches but I enjoyed my Email correspondence and the Internet comradery of the Target Shooting Community so much I have decided to continue the Internet matches for my new club. Just so there is no confusion, my contact information follows: Gary Piercey P.O. Box 209 Goulds, Newfoundland Canada A1S 1G4 Fax: 709-368-2926 Email: garyp@cs.mun.ca Work: gpiercey@morgan.ucs.mun.ca If there are any junior shooters out there, this is your chance to shine! For those of you seniors, Jim and I will be training hard to give you all a good challenge! So I hereby extend an invitation for you to join the action and participate in the Huskies' Internet Air Gun Competitions! Medals will be awarded and for each competition and they will be mailed shortly after the scores for each match are finalized. We have 3 scheduled for 1998 so far and the deadline dates are: i) February 22 ii) May 17 iii) October 18 For those juniors who are from Newfoundland and Labrador, the February 22 competition will be used by the Newfoundland Canada Games Rifle Coach as one of the nine qualifying matches for Canada Games Team Selection this year. The Canada Games will be hosted by Newfoundland and Labrador in 1999 and this is an opportunity for you to get ahead in the race... The competition is open to everyone and I expect to see some close scores. It should be a good one! ****************************************************************** Here's an informative site on psychology: MindTools at http://www.mindtools.com ****************************************************************** End of UIT Mailing List #13 Michael Ray - Systems Engineer Rose-Hulman Inst. of Tech.
