In this issue: E-M@tch results List archives Univ of Utah pistol scholarships European veteran shooters return to the sport Milan World Cup real time results ******************************************************************* Dear shooting friends, after two months of competing, we are proud to announce the final results of E-M@TCH 1997 - the first full-electronic international postal competition in air rifle and air pistol. The competition aimed to show the readiness of technology to conduct international events on elite level, to promote the shooting sport, to find new paradigms for media interaction and (last but not least) to have some fun. Looking at the participant list you will find Olympic and World Champions, World Cup winners, world record holders and other shooters that took the challenge to try out a new way of competing and that have found a new place for it - the cyberspace. The winners will be awarded on Saturday and Sunday, May 24-25, 1997 during the UIT World Cup in Munich, Germany. These results are available also at the E-M@TCH result homepage http://members.ping.at/liptak/ematchr.htm/ The information on E-M@TCH is available at http://members.ping.at/liptak/ematcha.htm/ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Air rifle, 40 shots, women: Shooter From 1 2 3 4 Total 1. For the organisers Jaroslav Liptak and Peter Kundis http://members.ping.at/liptak/ liptak@ping.at ******************************************************************** Hi Michael, I finally got a chance to put up issues 26 through 29 on the archive so if you or anyone else is using the page and are using Netscape or Microsoft Internet Explorer then you might want to refresh your cache for this page by choosing the "Reload" button while browsing the archive page. Otherwise the changes won't be seen for a while. And for anyone who does not know what this is about, there is an archive of all back issues of Michael's UIT list at the following URL: http://www.cs.mun.ca/~mrt/uit/uitlist.html The archive contains all issues from 1 to 29 inclusive and each link has a brief index of articles listed. Gary Piercey [Editor - Thank you, Gary] ******************************************************************** The Utah Precision Marksmanship Society is proud to announce the establishment of two $1000 tuition scholarships for members of the University of Utah Collegiate Pistol team. An announcement describing the details of the program is attached in both MS Word and ASCII formats. I would appreciate your announcing it to your subscribers. Thanks a lot. Matt DeLong ********************************************************************* Being impressed by your words, Mike, mailed me once last year, that you will use to shoot forever (after I wrote you I suspended shooting several years ago) as well as spectacular success of my friend Renata Mauer, I have stared, together with my wife and some friends to animate veteran shooting in Warsaw area. Before Championships of Europe in Air weapon in Warsaw, this February my wife made lot of effort to find fellow shooters of sixties and seventies of our shooting club ZKS (the only non military shooting club in this area). About 40 of us has met while E.Ch. It was lot of fun for everybody. Some of us started to meet on our shooting range in former suburban area which now has become good location, very close, less that 15 minute drive from the center. We found that mark shooting is not kept here in contrast to public pistol shooting very common recently. For everybody it was difficult to start shooting again. Without special clothes, using school quality rifles accessed for everybody who pays for shooting, with unknown class munition, we started to train and compete. We meet on first and third Sunday of month on the ranges. We have agreed the rules and development plan: Age classes 45+, 55+, 65+. Competitions: whole Olympic programme in pistol and rifle. Phase No.1. 10 shots string into single aim per position. Unlimited time. Individual shooting. Everybody counts results himself. Best results are published. Phase No. 2. 20 shots per position. Individual shooting as well as competitions. Phase No. 3. Whole program under UIT rules. We hope organize postal match through the web. We have started Phase No. 1. now. I shot while very cold March, standing position from 49/100, 54/100, 66 to 72. It was our record until last Sunday when Piotr Kosmatko (who trained Renata Mauer at her first six years of shooting) won 76 and 81! Prone until now I am the best with 94/100. As you can observe results are very funny. But there are lot of impressions connected. I participated once shooting air rifle after 3 year of break. Now it is completely different. My muscles in contrast of previous case do not remember shooting positions. But I KNOW VERY WELL HOW TOO SHOOT. It is a piece of tragedy. But fortunately we can observe progress after training, and fighting against ourselves, and it is optimistic. greeting for you and all fellow readers Wiktor my modified home page including trace of few warm words I received: http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Field/8181 [Editor - I'm honored to be a part of getting you back into shooting. Have fun!] ******************************************************************** After finishing the World Cup in Munich, the world's shooting elite moved to Milano to continue the series of World Cups for this year. The Italian Shooting Federation (FITAS)together with Nemo Internet has prepared an on-line reporting system from all major events. Selected finals will be available in real-time during the shooting. The results and finals are available by pointing your favorite browser to http://www.nemo.it/shooting/wcup97/ Note that the shooting times are local times in Milano (Central European Time with daylight savings). Stay tuned Jaroslav Liptak http://members.ping.at/liptak/ [Editor - this is as good as it gets without actually being there. See the finals as they take place. I watched them last year also. Events began today at 8am Milan time.] ****************************************************************** End of UIT Mailing List #30 Michael Ray - Systems Engineer Rose-Hulman Inst. of Tech.
