In this issue: Interested in 3P postals? FWB 603 info More World Masters Games info Last chance to enter E-M@TCH Kneeling advice ******************************************************************* Subject: 3 Position Smallbore Matches Hello There, I was thinking of running some 3 position smallbore rifle matches just over shooters E-mail, nothing really fancy, just a way to submit and swap scores. If you are a 3 position shooter and interested let me know, and if I hear from enough interested shooters I will be sending further information to you shortly. Thanx, Chad Danielson cdaniels@cp.duluth.mn.us [Editor - please respond directly to Chad. Thanks.] ******************************************************************* What is your opinion about the latest FWB model 603, especially about the absorber? Marija from Belgrade [Editor - can anyone help this young lady out? I have not seen the new 603 yet so I don't know whether the shock absorber does anything worthwhile or is just a gimmick. Why would someone get this rather than the P70 compressed air rifle?] ******************************************************************* The info on the World Masters Games is: 1998 NIKE WORLD MASTERS GAMES, 55 Yamhill, Portland, OR 97204-3312. 1-800-984-2637. No e-mail that I know of. But, I would not be too quick to spread the word just yet. They are having trouble getting the shooting people to agree to their contract requirements. The two clubs do not want to totally give up their facility to the WMG, nor do they want to actually incrue some cost to host the shooting events. There in fact may not be much shooting at all, and if there is, it may not be a quality match. There are other problems, such as the WMG wants to put their own people in as officials, referee's, range officers, etc, and have the club train them to run the events!! This, with all our own officials that have run all kinds of matches and events over the past many years. Anyway, it does not look good right now. I am thinking seriously about asking for my entry fee back and not entering at all. Everyone here is getting more and more unhappy with the "ruling body" in Portland. More later as I find out more about what is going on. Don Williams ******************************************************************* The first full-electronic Internet competition is reaching its closing period and it looks like an incredible success! Until now, it attracted shooters from Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Austria, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Australia. Until today, the participant list contains names of Olympic champions and World Cup winners. The original deadline of 20th April was extended until 4th May (last shooting day). Applications are possible until 1st May, data have to be sent in until 7th May. For updates and details, check out the E-M@TCH homepage at http://members.ping.at/liptak For informations, e-mail to liptak@ping.at. Keep in touch Jaroslav Liptak ******************************************************************** I am shooting in my first outdoor match next weekend. This is also the first time I have shot smallbore in over 5 years. I am not pleased with my kneeling position, so I'd like to hear other's solutions. A "high" position I find rather unstable for me. A "low" or forward position works fairly well for stability but I can't get a decent head position. Even with sight blocks, I have to look way down to get to the sights and my shooting lens is nearly touching the sights (which are about as forward as they go) so my neck feels pretty strained. Thus, I feel I need to raise the position some to get a decent head position. I'm not sure how to describe how I am positioned, but perhaps a comparison to prone may help. The sling length is the same between the two. I move the buttplate down about 2 cm (or whatever units the Anschutz buttplate is in) from 11 in prone to 9 in kneeling. The handstop goes from 12 in prone to 14.5 (closer to me) in kneeling. Assume other things are constant. These numbers are from a 1913. So I would guess I need to move the handstop even closer toward me and tighten the sling a bit and then lower the buttplate a little. Anything else I should check like using a smaller roll?
