In this issue: US high school shooters Guiness World Records??? Excellent shooting library Re: "Successful Pistol Shooting" Trigger control problem NCAA Final rankings ******************************************************************* The Ga Sport Shooting Association with a grant from the National Shooting Sports Foundation will be naming Georgia's first High School All State Rifle Team, at a press conference on April 26 at the Wolf Creek Olympic Shooting venue. The 10 team members will be chosen from the 79 high schools in the state who participate in varsity 3 position air rifle competition. The demographics for these shooters will be published on http://www.gssa.com for those of you who may be looking for college rifle team recruits. Best regards, Phillip Williams [Ed. note - while I shouldn't post this so I can corner the market (wink, wink), I will since I can never get kids to come to Rose anyway - too hard and too expensive I guess. 8^( ] ******************************************************************* Hello, I have one question, this summer with a another shooters we want to do a competition during 24 hours. We start at 8h00 friday and we finish at 8h00 saturday in the end of August, we haven't got any fixed date. For the competition we make 8 or 9 x 60 cps And my question is if you have any information for an another same competition (site, guiness book or other) you can send me that you have. Best Regards. (Personal air rifle record 40 cps = 388/400 and 60 cps = 581/600 ) Martin martin@bipbip.neu.sgi.com ******************************************************************* Mike: I have some info for a couple of your mailing list people who had questions. I have a large library of shooting sports related materials that would be of value to many of your list recipients. I have e=mailed a couple of them already with some help and ideas. Later, Don Williams. [Ed. note - he's not kidding. He sent me a listing of his reference material and it's 7-8 typed pages. You can e-mail him at bawilli@ibm.net ] ******************************************************************* For the foreign subscribers to the list, here is the info to get the book I mentioned. They told me it had not gone to Singapore or Austria yet, but had been ordered from Hong Kong, and England so far. "Successful Pistol Shooting" by Hickey and Sievers. ISBN: 0-939-414-03-1 Order from: STP Books 3350 West Desert Turtle Way Tuscon, AZ 85742-9019 520-744-8805 phone 520-744-8810 fax The above numbers are Arizona in the US, which is our Mountain time zone (+6 or 7 GMT). ******************************************************************** Michael, Here is a submission for the list: "A shooter knows she has a trigger control problem. In air rifle, she notices that very often when she is in the process of releasing the trigger the rifle rises slightly. This causes a number of potentially good shots to land -1 or -2 at 12 o'clock. I've worked with her on the mental aspects, but I think there is a physiological aspect here as well. Are there any shooting exercises that can help a shooter figure out what muscle groups are being unconsciously tensed to cause this sort of shot deflection?" Thanks for the help with this problem. BTW: I checked the Rose-Hulman site this morning. The NCAA stats are terrific. If you've not checked out these pages, I recommend you do: http://www.schuetzenbund.de/ Regards, Peter Vasilion ******************************************************************** 1997 NCAA Final Rankings (US collegiate rifle) can be found at our team's page: http://www.rose-hulman.edu/Users/groups/RifleTeam/Public/HTML/index.html The link is in the first sentence, not the "NCAA Info" link. ******************************************************************** End of UIT Mailing List #24 Michael Ray - Systems Engineer Rose-Hulman Inst. of Tech.
