In this issue: Major layout update to my pages Re: E-M@tch Re: vision impaired shooters NCAA Championship results Re: vision impaired shooters Need training info for air pistol Want books on competitive shooting Ross Mason's address ******************************************************************* While not having much to do with the list, I wanted to get your feedback on the new layout I have done to my pages at http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/1190/index.htm since most of you ended up on this list after viewing my pages. I have included a link to the old pages (or you can use your old bookmark) on the new comment form so you can compare. There is a link to my new pages on the main old page (index.html - note the extension is the only difference between the new and old). I would appreciate any feedback on whether the new version is better or worse. I'll tell you now I haven't added new and bigger pics yet, but that is coming soon. One major thing that is new is I have the complete Olympic results on-line now thanks to Volker Helmig , who isn't even on our list oddly enough. ******************************************************************* I was interested in the posting from newsletter #22 on this new Postal match and followed the link to the WWW site (http://members.ping.at/liptak). This postal will use the SCATT training device which from what I have read is similiar to CURT and a third product I've read of. All use laser like devices attached to rifle and attached to PC's to read and provide summary statistics and graphs of hold, steadiness, release, etc. Does anyone have any experience or comments on SCATT or CURT as a training device? SCATT seems neat in that it will work with a 10 meter range and allows actual firing of ammo. I think the Olympic Training Centre is using this type of tool. Dan Robb dbrobb@usa.net [Ed. note - according to the national level people here in the US, they are a good diagnostic and confirmation tool. The OTC has come up with their own system, which I also thought of, that is much cheaper yet hard to get. Attach an IR laser to your barrel and have an IR camera downrange and videotape your session basically. Very simple.] ******************************************************************* Concerning vision impaired shooters: there is a shooting club called "Der 1. Blindenschuetzenverein Berlin-Spandau". Ask for the address or other contact at: Schuetzenverband Berlin-Brandenburg Niedermeuendorfer Allee 12-16, 13587 Berlin, Germany Tel. +49 30 3351351 or 3358646 Fax: +49 30 3351465 They might be the source of valuable information or a contact for future postals. Regards, Jaro liptak@ping.at http://members.ping.at/liptak ******************************************************************* Here are the results of the 1997 NCAA Rifle Competition as of Sat., March 8: 1. West Virgina 2. University of Kentucky 3. University of Alaska at Fairbanks 4. Murray State University 5. US Air Force Academy 6. US Naval Academy West Virginia shot a great score in smallbore, putting them way ahead of most other teams. West Virginia also won the air rifle phase of the match, 10 points ahead of UK 1548 to 1538. Great job to all who those who competed. ******************************************************************** About shooting for the blind people. I have contact to a retailer for shooting equipment and also shooting deviceses for the blinds here in Denmark who I belive can help Graham in S.Australia. Unfortunately he has not access to Email, but can be reach on TELEFAX 45 4615 1670. If you send him a FAX he vill be happy to help. Paul Erik Sorensen Danish top shooter (Pistol) [Ed. note - As an aside, I must comment that I am quite pleased with the response we have gotten to this request. I had no idea that it was such a common activity though I did know it is in the Paralympics. Isn't the net wonderful sometimes?] ******************************************************************** I am very interested in getting information, specifically on shooting skills development such as recommended training methods, etc. Information needed is for Air Pistol Competitive shooting. Perhaps you can include this in your site or recommend other web sites that provide this information. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- (e-mail) maita.cabinian@unilever.com [Ed. note - while I'm not a pistol expert, I can tell you it is much easier than many will have you believe. I had it explained to me by an unorthodox international pistol coach who now has a new book out also called Successful Pistol Shooting by Hickey and Sievers. Call 520-744-8805 to order in the US.] ******************************************************************* Michael, I am not sure if this is a question for just you or something you want to put int he mailing list. I am looking for books on competetive shooting. Both the mental, and physical aspect. Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
