Michael,

I saw you on recguns and would like your help on selection on a spotting
scope for HP shooting. I know about the KOWA and thier new version. It
does not seem that any retired shooters very get rid of thier scopes. I am
going to get gunlist to check them out but what would be a good scope that
would work for these type of shoots? I recieved an EMail from a fella below
but is this a fair price for and a good scope??? Help
>I have a swift MODEL nighthawk ed 80-u it has the 28x75 eye piece
 > paid $500 wholesale for scope and $135 for eyepiece . less then
>one yr. old . i will seel both for $475. check them out it retails
>for $ 1000. complete . it also has a case ( hard )

I don't know a thing about this scope, I also called the DCM but they are out
of the Urtn....'s thought that might be a lesser expense way to go. I know
in optics you get what you pay for but as normal I want the best on a Honda
budget. HAH!!!! Do you have an idea on where to go to get what I'm looking
for?

Thanks for you help

Mark

[Ed note - Mark shoots at 200-600 yards.]

Graeme Pascoe might be interested to know that for many years the Royal
Victorian Institute for the Blind (In the adjacent State of Australia)
had a Smallbore Rifle Team which was affiliated with the Victorian
Smallbore Rifle Association, they had some kind of sonic system which
allowed them to hold the rifle in alignment with the target, when the
alignment was perfect the sound stopped as I understand it.

They only shot at 25 yards/20meters but they encouraged matches against
sighted teams at their range, they usually won.

I don't think they still operate but they shot for many years, I do not
know what happened to the equipment or who actually ran it but might be
able to find out if need be.

[Ed. note - due to the length of Mr. Liptak's post, I have judiciously
deleted lots of extra stuff. I would like to point out that you can find
the original text at his web site at http://members.ping.at/liptak where you
can enter the competition. If you don't have www access, e-mail him to send
you the full text directly.]

Dear shooting friend,

It is my pleasure to invite you to participate at a new species of competition.

The technology makes it possible. From the mid of 80's, electronic targets
and various shooting simulators based on sound, laser or infrared signal
processing are on the market. The output is digitalised and stored for later
review and evaluation with the appropriate software. This is the first
attempt in the history of shooting and in the short but rich history of
Internet as well to run a fully digital competition. There will be no postal
mailings; we will use shooting and telecommunications equipment only. Let
the purpose of this competition be:

- to demonstrate the state of technology that makes it possible to revive
the idea of postal matches with a completely new dimension;

- to promote the shooting sport to the public via Internet;

- to try out an alternative way to conduct a competition;

- and, last but not least, to have fun.

The first electronic international competition "E-M@TCH 1997" is organised
worldwide from Vienna, Austria for all shooters having access to the SCATT
training device.

Competition director:
Jaroslav Liptak
phone/fax: (+43 1) 522 0 313 (after 7:00 pm CET)
e-mail: liptak@ping.at
homepage: http://members.ping.at/liptak

Disciplines:
Air rifle 10m men - 60 shots
Air rifle 10m women - 40 shots
Air pistol 10m men - 60 shots
Air pistol 10m women - 40 shots
Only one start in one discipline is allowed.
All relevant UIT rules apply. By applying to the E-M@TCH, participants are
accepting the honorary system of postal competitions and agree to compete in
a fair and sportsmanlike manner.

Competition schedule:
Start shooting date: 3rd March, 1997
End shooting date: 20th April, 1997
The schedule is designed to allow entries of more shooters utilising one
SCATT training device.

There is an alternative way to enter the competition by filling out the
electronic entry form at the E-M@TCH homepage.

All applications will be examined for correctness and then made public by:
- posting to the Usenet newsgroup rec.guns
- adding the applicants name to the E-M@TCH homepage on the WWW (World Wide Web)

You are welcome to set a new milestone in shooting history by participating
to this competition. We are wishing you best results and looking forward to
meet you in cyberspace.

The NCAA National Rifle Championships are rolling around this Thursday, and
I will be there, however not shooting :( All the favorites are going to be
there, and I will post Sunday as to who will be the 1997 NCAA Champions. I
see Kentucky (my team!) West Vigina, Alaska, and Air Force fighting for the
number one spot this year. May the best team win!

Issue #21: I am sending you today a
chart on wind that is very good and I have been using myself and as a
handout for the JOSP State Camps when I ran them. If you can get me the
address of Ross Mason, I will send it to him, or you can. This is only
part of my large library of stuff that I also sent info on. It is
available to anyone, under certain circumstances.

The vision
impaired question from Graham in S. Australia. I know that the Danish
folks had a program using sound to help blind shooters in air
rifle/pistol. You might contact them at their federation, or he can, and
ask them about it. If they can't help, then let me know and I will give
him another contact. You or he might also contact: Dave Baskin, Disabled
Shooting Sports Director, 102 Park Ave., Rockledge, PA 19111. Phone
215-663-0102. If he can't help himself, then he may know someone who
can.

All this is just some of the info on shooting sports that
I have at my fingertips or in my files/books, etc. It is available to
anyone who asks. Thanks.
