In this issue: Balancing the rifle Award medals Mental training book Award medals / ammo weight rule? ******************************************************** With respect to my comments in #12 about the balance of the rifle, I said: "When I fit a rifle for myself I like to have the center of balance of the rifle at the point where my supporting hand comes in contact with the forestock." I was referring to the standing position only. I should clarify this with respect to the prone and kneeling positions as well. In standing, as I said, the fulcrum should be at the point where the hand contacts the forestock. In the kneeling position the fulcrum point should be directly over the left elbow and knee (or right elbow for left handed shooters). In prone, and correct me if I am wrong, the fulcrum point should be at the point where the hand comes in contact with the forestock. Obviously, this point would be much further out on the forstock than in standing but in the UIT .22 Free Rifle event extra weights could be added to distribute the weight differently. Not sure about other events though. I am involved only with smallbore rifle shooting. Sorry about any confusion created by the non-completeness of my previous message. :) Gary Piercey [Ed. note - I say just do trial and error to find what is most stable for you. Like I said I have the fulcrum above my hand in standing also.] ********************************************************* RE: Where to find quality medals You might try Edmond Trophy Company, 401 W. 15th, Edmond, Oklahoma. (405) 341-4631 or fax to (405) 341-1466 Although they are in an unlikely location, they have made excellent medals for many events worldwide. *********************************************************RE: mental training Dr. Antal mentioned a book: The Mental Art of World Competitive Shooting. Does anyone know the author and publisher of it. What other books on the mental aspects of shooting and/or mental training for shooting does anyone recommend? [Actually, Chet Skinner mentioned a book. He is the author and publisher of it. You may contact him at meecin@tnproweb.com. He also happens to be my coach. Dr. Antal is the source of some info Chet relayed to the list.] ******************************************************* Why not buy Blackington medals. They are about $9 each with a lot of choices. The "NRA" medals are made by Blackington, are made in relatively few styles, and cost $8 each when I went to purchasing directly from Blackington. .... Perhaps, I do not understand the question? Mac > > I must have deleted it, but there was something about using ammo with a "heavier" bullet..... there are rules about the "weight" of the 22LR bullet. [Ed note - not in the UIT rules at least. Only restriction is it's .22 Long Rifle and the bullet is made of lead or similar soft material.] > > Regards, Mac James C.
