National Target Shooting Association P.O.Box 9 Blackrock Sorting Office Blackrock Co Dublin 21st May 2000 Terry McAuley Trinity College, Dublin 2 Dear Mr McAuley, On behalf of the National Target Shooting Association I should like to congratulate you on your development of a new shooting facility. I should like to assure you of our continuing support for the club, and the continued excellence of your up and coming shooters. As you know, with the late starting age for shooting sports in Ireland, the main way we can progress the sport is to advance the student shooters and to encourage the progression through all the levels of shooting, up to International level. It would be appropriate for your club to have a facility that would allow you to host your internal club competitions, external open club competitions, intervarsity matches and possibly other competitions. To do this, the range should be equipped with at least 8 firing points at 25 metres, with an overall length of approximately 40 metres. If the range was at least 15 metres wide, the club could also host air rifle matches. It would be our hope to help in the training of your club coaches and shooters in order to further increase the standard of shooting in your club to National level, which would benefit the sport as a whole in Ireland.. Shooting is one of the few sports that allows progression to an Olympic standard with a relative minimum of facilities. For some time now, the DURC has operated well below this minimum level. With improved facilities, we have no doubt that DURC shooters would achieve even higher levels of excellence and be capable of representing Trinity College and Ireland at National and International levels. If we can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us , Yours sincerely. John Kennedy Chairman, National Target Shooting Association
