_NEWS_ENTRY(`26,27/2/00',Air Rifle Colours Weekend)
The _LINK(air_Colours_2000.html,Air Rifle Colours match) was held in
Wilkinstown again this year, with the novice section going to _DURC
while _UCDRC took the experienced trophy. The Colours match however,
is unique in that it is probably the best social event in the Irish
shooting calendar, and as such the results are studiously ignored after
the team that won is determined ! This year was no exception, with a
large turnout from both colleges and also from the overall shooting
community, including several members of the national squad who made time
to visit even though they were leaving for europe only a day later.
Thanks guys (and ladies!). After the day's shooting was completed,
the celebrations and debates over what cost who their points lasted
till well into the small hours of the morning, and resulted in several
somewhat suspect pictures being taken. Strange intoxicants surfaced at
various points (and took their toll the next morning!) and completely
reprehensible jokes, not to mention a very passable rendition of the
Monty Python lumberjack sketch from a somewhat inebriated _UCDRC member
who shall remain nameless for his own sake !
