DURC sweeps boards at Air Rifle Nationals The Rifle Club squad was out in force this weekend at the Air Rifle National Championships. Led by Captain Steven Watterson, virtually all of the squad set personal bests in the event, taking home prizes in almost every class. In the National Open, held concurrently with the National Championships, Steven Watterson took third place overall, only losing first place in the last few shots of the match, and posting a new club record score of 579 in the process. In the same event, Peter Byrne took first place in class C, with Nithin Santhosh taking second, Kate Fanning took first place in class D with John Keeney and Rob McAdoo taking second and third places. In the National Championships, Mark Dennehy failed to make the finals, but Ben Jones and Peter Byrne took second and third place in class C, while Deirdre Ninaber (on her first ever air rifle competition) took first place in class D, closely followed by John Keeney in third place.
